How do you arrange a funeral service?

  • Usually your Funeral Director will give me your contact details.
  • I will call you to arrange a meeting at your home (or another venue if you wish), so we can talk about what sort of service you would like.
  • At the meeting you can tell me about the person who has died, perhaps share some special memories or interesting stories.
  • We will also talk about whether you want any particular music during the service and whether there are any poems or readings that you would like (I can offer some suggestions).
  • Even if you don’t want a full religious service, you may want to include some spiritual content – a short prayer, a hymn – it’s up to you to decide and we can discuss this.
  • You may want family members to play a part in the service and deliver their own personal tribute.
  • When we have discussed all these details, I will confirm everything to you, write a draft eulogy (if you want me to) which I will then send to you for approval before the service.
  • I will liaise with the Funeral Director and staff at the crematorium or burial ground to make sure all your requests and wishes are followed.
  • On the day of the funeral I will be there with you to conduct the service and to help you say that final farewell to your loved one.
  • After the service I will send you a full copy of the service so you have a permanent memory to keep.
